Unimelb Startup ’13 Pitch Competition which is being sponsored by RedBalloon, the Melbourne Business School and the Faculty of Business and Economics, aims to help students pitch their start-up business ideas to a panel of Judges that would include investors, venture capitalists and the CEO of successful home-grown online experience retailer RedBalloon.

The shortlisted business concepts include:

A ‘wingman and wingwoman’ service to tutor desperate daters.
A convert-your-home-to-a-restaurant service that lets budding cooks sell their food to international student.
An online shopping tool to help you identify, locate and buy your friends’ fashions.
An Australian version of the successful American crowdfunding website, Kickstarter.
A subscription website to empower and support disability carers.

The best proposal will receive $8,000 in seed funding, and the team behind it will share a ‘lunch and learn’ session with RedBalloon founder and awarded entrepreneur, Naomi Simson.
