For the first time Melbourne gaming enthusiasts will be able to attend Atomic magazine’s showcase event AtomicCon in their own city.
A leading Australian computing magazine, Atomic is joining with Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology to present AtomicCon – a whole-day extravaganza for gaming and technology enthusiasts.
Andrew Owen, Marketing Officer with the Faculty of Information Technology said the faculty was thrilled to have this unique opportunity to host this year’s AtomicCon.
“This is the first time AtomicCon has been held in Victoria so we are very excited to be involved with Atomic in this way,” Mr Owen said.
“We had over 1000 gaming enthusiasts at our Computer Games Bootcamp in July so I am sure this event will prove just as popular.”
“We have hosted other Atomic events over the past five years including its live event Atomic Revolver during this year’s Bootcamp. It is encouraging to be able to further develop our ongoing partnership in this way.”
Participants of AtomicCon will be treated to presentations by some of the best game publishers in Australia as well as leading suppliers of information technology equipment such as Antec, Gigabyte, ThermalTake, AverMedia, Corsair and Western Digital. There will also be the opportunity for participants to play recently released games such as Arkham City, War in the North, RAGE and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.
And for those who are interested in pursuing study in the information technology field there will be course information and details of potential pathways available.
“As with our Bootcamp, many of our IT students volunteer to work on the day,” Mr Owen said.
“They gain valuable experience by assisting the visiting companies in their presentations, installing and testing software, hardware support as well as general support with the competitions and activities run on the day.”
AtomicCon will take place on Saturday 12 November at Monash University’s Caulfield campus between 11am and 4pm.
The event is open to everyone with an interest in gaming and entry is free, however registration is required.
