A new National Centre for Asia Capability to focus on improving the Asia skillset of Australia’s workforce will be co-hosted by the University of Melbourne and the University of New South Wales.
Aim of centre is to help skill Australia for the Asian Century, build an Asia capable workforce through training programs, research and the development of regional networks and address a critical need identified by the corporate sector by combining the expertise of government, business and universities
The Centre has already identified several areas that are critical for successful engagement in Asia. For individuals this includes language proficiency, knowledge of Asian markets and environments, as well as long-term relationships, while for organisations it includes having leadership committed to an Asia-focused strategy alongside better processes for sharing Asian learnings.
Asialink, Australia’s leading centre for the promotion of public understanding of the countries of Asia and of Australia’s role in the region, will oversee the establishment of the Centre.
