We are seeking an enthusiastic and team orientated supervisor who has the ability to coordinate the day to day activities of the Primate section.  You will have a leadership style that encourages and develops your team, provides advice and manages challenges in a calm and professional manner. 

During the period of this contract there will be several international transactions occurring as well as important animal introductions. Demonstrated experience in managing complex primate husbandry issues and logical problem solving is highly desired.

In addition, the successful candidate needs to lead the team through the transition to a Government Officers award/agreement. This will be an exciting time of change for the Life Sciences Directorate and will be at the forefront of business.

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday and reports directly to the Curator Operations.

 

To be considered your skills and experience will match the following criteria:

ESSENTIAL

1. Certificate III in Zoo Keeping or Captive Animal Management or an equivalent qualification.

2. Extensive experience in animal husbandry and in working in a zoo or similar environment.

3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to effectively lead and mentor staff.

4. Demonstrated successful experience in project coordination, management projects and project teams.

5. Good computer skills in contemporary office software, including use of spreadsheets and a working knowledge of data base management relevant to animal record keeping.

6. Knowledge and experience in animal collection planning and of species management principles.

DESIRABLE

1. Tertiary Qualification in a relevant discipline.

2. Experience in the coordination and/or undertaking of research projects.

3. Experience as a Regional Studbook Keeper or Species Coordinator.

4. Knowledge of and commitment to conservation consistent with the role of Zoos.
